At Elite Academy of Dance, we believe in developing our students into technically sound dancers through a positive and progressive atmosphere. The Academy is founded and directed by Melissa Devolve, an Aquidneck Island native who has been dancing competitively and teaching children and adults for over 15 years.
Elite Academy of Dance is located at 35 Dyer Street, Portsmouth, RI 02871(formerly the Steppin’ Out Dance Studio),and has two classroom spaces with hardwood floors, along with monitors for viewing your child's classes!

Melissa A. Devolve, Director Melissa A. Devolve is an Aquidneck Island native. She grew up dancing at Steppin’ Out Dance Studio in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where she studied under Lisa Mailloux. She also studied at the Newport Ballet Academy. She has been teaching dance to students of all ages in the Boston area for several years. In addition to teaching, Melissa has performed in the halftime show of the Florida Citrus Bowl and Magic Music Days at Disneyworld, and has competed regionally and nationally in Las Vegas, New York City, Connecticut, Boston, and Washington, D.C. She has received many gold and silver medals for her solo and group performances.
Melissa is a graduate of Dean College in Massachusetts where she received an A.A. and a B.A. in Dance and was a member of the college dance company for four years. Melissa has also graduated from the Dance Masters of America Teacher Training School in Buffalo, NY, earning her certification from the program. She also has received her gymnastics safety certification from the United States Gymnastics Association.

Melissa welcomes the opportunity to share her knowledge and enthusiasm for dance with her students and community.
