Jaswells Farm was started in 1899 by Nicola Gesualdi after he immigrated to America from Italy. Nicola, who later became known as Nicholas Jaswell, then passed it down to his son, Joseph Jaswell in the early 1930s. Joe or Papa Joe as he was known ran the farm along with the help of his son. He primarily sold his harvest to the farmers market in Providence. He also raised farm animals for use on the farm and to sell. In 1967, Joes son Richard took over the farm with the help of his wife Patricia. This was the beginning of the Jaswells Farm we know today. Richard and Pat opted to concentrate on the fruit and vegetable growing, and selling the harvests at their own store instead of to other farmers. They constructed their first farmstand in 1969 and added an apple cider mill in 1970.

The Jaswells were one the first farms in the area to offer pick your own to their customers. As the business grew, Richard and Pat diversified their offerings to accommodate the increased customer base. By 1995, they had outgrown their humble beginnings.

In 1997, Richard and Pats children had come back from college to work with them and they opted to construct a new building to house the growing business. In 1998, the Jaswells added the bakery and were the first in the state to start pasteurizing their apple cider.

In 1999, Richard and Pats two children, Chris and Allison took over the business to continue the proud family tradition started by their great grandfather 100 years earlier. The farm continues to grow and evolve with the ever-changing environment. With the addition of the fifth generation, they are hopeful that the tradition will continue for another hundred years. The Jaswells invite you to visit and enjoy what they and their predecessors have worked so hard to build and struggle to hold on to.
