We train our students to not only meet state requirements but to surpass them.The instructors and staff at our school are committed to the highest standards of teaching. At Newport School of Hairdressing, we go beyond the basics everyday.

Were also proud not to affiliate ourselves with one-product companies. Beauty schools like Redken, Toni & Guy, Paul Mitchell and Aveda are known as Product Schools.Their focus is to train you in using only their product line so when you leave school you will only use and sell their product.They also want you to think that they offer you a better education than we do or even a better job.This is absolutely not true at all! In fact, very few salons use only one product line.

And because we are not a one-product school we partner with many different product companies as well as local and national salons.This gives our graduates an opportunity to be employed anywhere in the world from a family affordable salon to the most elite salon or spa focusing on a brand thats just right for you.

Our single focus is not selling products, but your success as a highly marketable and sought- after beauty professional with skills that can take you wherever you want to go.We dont own salons! We dont own a product line! What we do own is a premier educational facility designed to prepare you for an extraordinary career.

All work done by students is supervised by licensed instructors. Clinic hours are
Monday through Saturday, 9am to 3:30am and Thursday and Friday evenings 5 - 9pm

1)Weve been in business over 40 years and nationally accredited for 30 years.Accreditation means we go beyond State Board requirements and meet the highest standards in the industry.We know the school business.We are organized, friendly, professional, experienced and have successfully trained and graduated hundreds of students.

2)Product and technique variety! Theres absolutely no benefit in training with one product like Redken, Paul Mitchell or Aveda.Dont be brainwashed into thinking this gives you a better education.In fact, if you look in the phone book under Beauty Salons you probably wont find any salons that use just one product.

3)Also, when you attend a one product school, they usually force you to sell a quota of their retail products every month.(Ask them) Is this education?

4)At Newport School of Hairdressing were not controlled by any product company therefore we dont put any ridiculous quotas on students to sell products.

5) We make learning fun.Our students are happy they choose Newport School of Hairdressing. Theory classes are kept to a minimum so more time can be devoted to hands-on training in a high end salon like setting.

Hairdressing and Cosmetology

At THE NEWPORT SCHOOL OF HAIRDRESSING, we provide you with not only a skill, but also some knowledge of yourself and the world around you. We prepare students to successfully pass the State Board examination for professional licensing and equip them with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career as a Cosmetologist, Make-up Artist, Sales Representative, Specialty Technician, or Platform Artist.

Subject knowledge procedures that will be taught in the school will include: Shampooing and rinsing, Scalp and Hair Care, Hair Shaping, Hairstyling, Permanent Waving, Haircoloring, Chemical Hair Relaxing, Manicuring, Facials, facial Make-up, Removal of Superfluous Hair, plus a knowledge of salon ethics and management. Texts include Miladys Standard Textbooks.

Sixteen years old/Tenth Grade for Massachusetts licensing
Successfully passing the Admission test approved by the U.S. Department of Education if not a high school graduate

HOW TO GET STARTED/PAYMENT OPTIONS

A personal interview and tour with the schools admission personnel and completed application is required of all applicants in order to assess the following: Their reason for choosing this profession, their ability to benefit from the training, their ability to work with the public, dependability and their general attitude.After this process is completed, our admissions personnel will discuss and evaluate your potential to enter school.You will be notified within 10 days if youve been accepted.
Applicants must have a high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate, or pass an ATB exam that is given by the school.Foreign diplomas must be equivalent to a high school education and must be translated in English.

PAYMENT PLAN: You are not required to pay for the course in advance.Our payment plan allows you to pay for the course throughout your training. We accept cash and checks.

PELL GRANT: No repayment is asked.Applications are available upon request from our office. For assistance in filling out this application, contact our financial aid officer.

STUDENT LOAN: Students apply through the school.Eligibility determined by federal guidelines.Repayment begins 6 months after graduation.
